Dr. Carl F. Culicchia is the founder of our practice. He started Culicchia Neurological Clinic in 1961 to serve patients on the west bank and in South Louisiana.
Dr. Culicchia paved the way for many neurological advances to come. He established a hospital-based electroencephalographic laboratory in the 1960′s so patients in rural southeast Louisiana would have access to telephonically transmitted EEGs.
ABOUT NEW ORLEANS AREA NEUROSURGEON CARL CULICCHIA
Dr. Culicchia started his neurological and neurosurgical practice when the West Bank of the Mississippi River was just a sleepy suburb.
Early on, the clinic included both neurosurgeons and medical neurologists and was the primary source of neurosurgical care for about 250,000 people. Always the pioneer, Dr. Culicchia was instrumental in establishing two hospitals and the first MRI laboratory on the West Bank.
Retirement has allowed Dr. Culicchia more time to evaluate the way our healthcare system works today. He feels strongly that a free market system which discloses performance criteria and price would go a long way toward improving the way health care is delivered.
He received the Louisiana State Neurosurgical Society’s prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017.
“In a free market system, the quality of medical care will become more uniform over time as the market place eliminates those medical products that fall below the acceptable level in the open market place.” – Dr. Carl Culicchia
As one of the largest neurological and neurosurgical practices in the New Orleans Gulf South region, Culicchia Neurological Clinic focuses specifically on Neurocare to ensure that our patients receive the best possible outcome.
